OUR STORY
A Message from the Executive Director
As a native of Bayelsa and a proud member of the Ijaw Tribe, I grew up in the heart of Nigeria’s oil-producing region—where oil was first discovered in 1959 in Oloibiri, just a few miles from my village.
For more than six decades, crude oil exports from Bayelsa have powered the global energy industry, driving growth and supplying vital products to economies around the world. Yet, despite this profound contribution, Bayelsa continues to face persistent energy poverty and infrastructure gaps—an imbalance that mirrors much of Nigeria’s broader energy challenge.
Today, we have an opportunity to change that narrative. The Bayelsa LNG Export Project represents a decisive step toward transforming the region’s natural gas resources into sustainable prosperity—creating jobs, generating reliable power, and delivering revenue that benefits both local communities and the national economy.
The Bayelsa State Government remains fully committed to this landmark initiative, which will serve as the state’s first LNG export facility and a cornerstone for long-term economic development.
